“Stories from our Land” workshop
It was such a great week, November 15 - 19, 2010. There was about 16 participants from different communities across Nunavut territory.
Thanks to Nunavut Film Development Corporation & National Film Board, I gained my experience on media equipment. I will pass it on to others who are interested. We learned so much about film making, we met a lot of interesting people who attended the workshop.
Amy Owingayak: "Stories from Our Land" Film Workshop
First of all, I’d like to say that the Nanisiniq: Arviat History Project will be making a documentary film. When I heard about the Stories from Our Land which is a training opportunity for film making, I had decided to apply for it. One of our group members also decided to apply and luckily,we both were accepted for the Workshop held in Iqaluit, Nunavut. The workshop will be held from November 14-19 and I am excited to go and learn more about film making.
Secondly, here are some of the things we will be working on: approaching story, a producers job, the director at work, camera and lighting, sound work, editing, shooting a micro docmentary, conceive, pitch, plan, shoot, capture & plan, screening and critique of rushes and rough cut to final cut. I am excited to learn about all the different things that it takes to make a documentary film because it will be useful for our Arviat History Project if one of the members knows about film making.
Last but not least, I know that it will be a good opportunity for me. Therefore, I am willing to continue learning about film making and improve my skills. Not only is it good for our History Project but it is also good for me to have learned something new that can be useful in the future. I am hoping for the best on our history project with that experience from Stories From Our Land.
